Earth

Pork Neckbones, Sauerkraut & Rutabagas
Born in a log cabin in Tiger, Pend Oreille, Washington, in 1916, Dorothea ‘Dixie’ Pfister grew up on the edges of Seattle’s Green Lake. After high school, ‘Dixie’ worked at the Green Lake State Bank, and explored the Northwest in her Model A. She would marry, and after she and her husband, Vern Nordstrand, raised their four children, Dorothea was given a computer and began writing about her life. Her memoir, Pork Neckbones, Sauerkraut & Rutabagas, compiled many of her published essays and stories from a life well-lived and a girlhood in the first half of the Twentieth Century.
A Friend of Michelle
A former bookstore owner, Kirby has been crafting stories since infancy. She spent a couple of decades pounding out columns that told the stories of people she met and the legends of an area of artists in Seattle. With ‘A Friend of Michelle’, Kirby has given life to the fictional characters who might’ve told her their stories, if they’d existed at all. Travel preoccupies Kirby’s adult aspirations, and for her first novel, she’s chosen the inspiring island of O’ahu, and for the subject, she tells the story of Sebastian. He’s a young man learning that the course of true love never runs smooth and sometimes runs right up a hill better left behind.
